Since 2009, Marien works as director, investor and consultant for
various messaging technology companies and start-ups.
In 2001, Marien founded mBalance, a company specialized in innovative
Short Messaging Service (SMS) routing equipment for GSM networks. As
CEO of mBalance, he built a highly profitable company that delivered
core network messaging equipment to over 50 GSM networks world wide.
He sold mBalance to USA-based Tekelec (Nasdaq:TKLC) in December 2008.

Prior to founding mBalance, Marien worked 6 years for CMG Wireless
Data Solutions (later named LogicaCMG, then Acision) in Business
Development in Europe and Asia. In 1998 he moved to Singapore to start
up CMG's first office in Asia, where, as director of CMG Asia Pacific,
he was responsible for the development of CMG's messaging business in
the entire Asian region.
Before 1996, he worked as a software consultant for defense technology
company TNO in The Netherlands. Marien holds a master’s of science
degree in electrical engineering from Delft University of Technology.
