Advancell is a privately held biopharmaceutical company founded in 2001 as a spin-off from research groups at the University of Barcelona and Valencia.
The company generates a portfolio of proprietary high value drug candidates through reformulating and/or repositioning drugs by:
• Identifying novel applications of known drugs (repositioning), and/or
• Leveraging its innovative nanomedicine drug delivery technology (reformulation)
Advancell focuses on indications and therapeutic areas with a clear unmet medical need in oncology, dermatology and CNS. It currently has four programs in clinical development and pursues a series of preclinical opportunities.
The company operates in two complementary Business Units: NANOSYSTEMS develops the nanomedicine drug delivery technology that improves the delivery and administration of drugs and moves the projects to pre-clinical proof of concept. THERAPEUTICS focuses its activity on the clinical development, usually up to phase II. Revenues are created by out-licensing to third parties for marketing and sales.
ALTERNATIVE TESTING, a former business unit of Advancell providing research services and cell-based in vitro models has been successfully divested end of 2010.
