One of the original three cofounders of Chipidea, José currently serves as Chipidea's President, CEO, and Chairman. As a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the Engineering University (IST) in Lisbon, José founded the University's Integrated Circuits and Systems Group in 1987 and the IST Centre of Microsystems in 1994.
A graduate of IST in Engineering of Electronics and Computing, José earned a doctorate at Imperial College of Science and Technology in London. He has published more than 300 papers in scientific journals, magazines, international conferences, and research books.
In 2006, the Portuguese President of the Republic, Dr. Jorge Sampaio, honored José with the Grande Oficial da Ordem do Mérito in recognition of his entrepreneurial work on behalf of Portugal. José was named an IEEE Fellow in 1997, and in 1999 he received the Golden Jubilee Medal Award from the Circuits & Systems Society of the IEEE. José holds five international patents on switched-capacitor networks.
