Established in 1999, SOLVO Biotechnology is a privately held company
specializing in pharmaceutical and biotechnological R&D related to ABC
transporters and multi-drug resistance in cancer and other diseases.
The company was founded by internationally reputed Hungarian
scientists and business executives. Over 75% of SOLVO is in the hands
of Hungarian firms and individuals. International business angels own
the rest.
SOLVO’s professional team of over 70 experts consists of medical
doctors, pharmacists, biologists, chemists and economists. The
company’s laboratories are located in the Biological Cooperation
Center of the University of Szeged and the Central Hungarian
Innovation Center in Budaörs. These laboratories perform the company’s
own research and development activities, as well as contract research
and production for international pharmaceutical companies.
SOLVO’s mainstream products are its in-vitro assay systems designed
for sale by pharmaceutical companies in the EU, Japan and the US.
Manufactured exclusively by SOLVO worldwide, most of these products
are protected by patents, know-how, or trade secrets. The 20 largest
pharmaceutical and most significant biotechnology companies are
regular users of SOLVO’s assay systems. The company also develops
diagnostic products that help physicians personalize chemotherapy
treatment for patients with cancer and other diseases. SOLVO has early
stage drug discovery projects as well.
