António began his career in 1984 in Radio Marconi Portuguese Company
as director for international relations, and was responsible for
various telecommunications projects in Angola, São Tomé, Guinea and
Latin America.
From 1991 to 1993, the Prime Minister, Dr. Cavaco Silva, appointed
António Head of the Office of Secretary of State for the Portuguese
Communities. In 1993, António returned to private business, where he
worked as executive administrator of several companies in the holding
group, Grupo José de Mello (family business), and was responsible for
developing, restructuring and optimizing communications systems and
information for the Group. In 1996, António founded together with the
EDP (Electrical Utilities of Portugal), the telecommunications company
ONI. In 1999, António founded the A2M Holding Group, SGPS, SA (António
M. de Mello, SGPS, SA), where he is president and hold various shares
in various companies in the Lisbon stock exchange. Since 2000, he
serves as chairman of the board of: Group Tecnidata, SGPS, SA (1200
employees), ALL2IT-Infocomunicações, SA, Canes Venatici, SGPS and
Group REDITUS, SGPS, SA.
António holds a degree in systems engineering from Instituto Superior
Técnico (IST), and graduated from the Senior Executive Program, PADE
XXV at IESE (Spain). He has completed professional development
programs in techniques of negotiation and communication, and
accounting and finance, both offered by the Institute for Banking
(IFB), in Portugal. He recently completed the General Management
Program at Harvard Business School.
